Pink blossoms of Tabebuia pentaphylla In Malaysia

Whether it’s because you follow Instagram users residing in Japan, or have friends and family members visiting the land of The Rising Sun, chances are that your social media feed would be filled with hanamiimages – picturesque scenes of sakura (cherry blossoms) blooming!
And if you’re anything like us, you’d be dying to fly off to those areas to personally view and experience this wonder of nature, stat! But since travelling is not cheap and money does not fall from the skies, you would most probably have to wipe away  those dreams until perhaps  the next season.
That is, unless you can find a way to experience hanami in Malaysia…

Mainly situated in the northern part of Malaysia, specifically in Kedah and Penang, these ‘Malaysian sakura trees’ are actually Tecoma Trees (Tabebuia rosea) or pokok kertas tisu (Bahasa Melayu for ‘tissue paper tree’).
Coming in shades of white and pink, the tropical trees are filled with bloomed flowers in the month of March and July — turning the landscape, as well as streets and pavements into a beautiful and colourful sight.
